The Greene County Medical Center Foundation held their annual Golf Fundraiser Friday, June 10, 2022, at the Jefferson Community Golf Course in conjunction with the Bell Tower Festival. Special games and prizes in the amount of $150.00 were awarded, keeping with the theme of celebrating Jefferson’s Sesquicentennial, 150 years.
“We were excited to host our tournament in conjunction with Bell Tower Festival for the first time this year, helping host an event for locals and people who come to the Festival, along with partners and vendors of the Medical Center,” stated Nancy Houska, Foundation Director. “In working with the Bell Tower Festival committee this spring, we committed to making a donation back to the Festival to help jumpstart funds for their Festival each year. We saw combining efforts as a win-win for the Festival, the Medical Center and in turn patients we serve.”
The tournament began at 9:00 a.m. with a 4-person team format and ended in the middle of the afternoon, allowing golfers to enjoy the Friday afternoon and evening Bell Tower festivities. The event held a “Give and Take a Stroke” game, as part of the fundraising efforts. Teams purchased a stroke to take off their game or add a stroke to different team. A lot of strokes were purchased with some friendly competition amongst the teams to earn their spot of ending the day with the final low score. Home State Bank was the championship flight winner, with special mention to Complete Insurance for being the team given the most strokes by their competitors. Midland Power Company was the winner of the 2nd flight.
Funds raised through the Foundation this past year are helping purchase equipment for the new pain clinic, an additional AED in the clinic which is used if someone experiences a sudden cardiac arrest, pediatric supplies and much more. Foundation funds also provide healthcare scholarships to local high school seniors pursing a medical career. The annual fundraiser helps the Medical Center continue the vision of being Always Here, Always Caring.
Aramark, Drees Co., Home State Bank, Iowa Hospital Association, Jefferson Hy-Vee, Jefferson Telecom, Lutz Accounting, SCP Health, UnityPoint Health Des Moines and Wild Rose Casino were major sponsors this year. 21 teams and 84 golfers participated in the event.
Next year’s event will be held Friday, June 9, 2022. You can find more information about the event by visiting www.gcmchealth.com/golf.
