Iowa Health Systems now UnityPoint Health
April 29, 2013
Greene County Medical Center’s strategic management partner recently changed its name from Iowa Health – Des Moines to UnityPoint Health – Des Moines. UnityPoint Health is the nation’s fifth largest non-denominational health system.
The name change was announced last week in Des Moines. The change does not impact the medical center in any outward way, as the new name is not visibly used with the affiliation Greene County Medical Center has with UnityPoint Health.
The partnership does continue to have a positive impact on the medical center. This affiliation enables the medical center to retain a local governance structure while taking advantage of greater system-wide resources, clinical platforms, best practices and many other programs and offerings. In addition, the relationship affords Greene County Medical Center the management expertise and educational offerings of a larger organization that would not otherwise be readily available to a county hospital. The management agreement and Critical Access Hospital network agreement with UnityPoint Health makes the medical center a vital member of Iowa’s largest healthcare provider network.
Greene County Medical Center remains locally governed by a board of trustees while key administration positions are employed by UnityPoint Health – Des Moines. Chief Executive Officer Carl Behne, Chief Financial Officer Mark VanderLinden and Chief Nursing Officer Cindy Kail are all UnityPoint Health – Des Moines employees.
Behne noted, “Collaborating with UnityPoint Health – Des Moines truly provides a level of support that is available to enhance all areas of service provided by the medical center which directly impacts all of the community.”
