Greene County Medical Center Long Term Care MDS Coordinator Deb Schoon recently received her recertification to continue as a certified Resident Assessment Coordinator, the “gold standard” in long term care resident assessment.

Schoon has been at the medical center for 3 ½ years as Long Term Care’s MDS coordinator.  As the MDS coordinator, Schoon is responsible for resident assessments and is responsible for the documentation of each resident’s physical and mental abilities.  Her work is used to design individual care plans for each resident.

Chief Nursing Officer Katie Heldt, who oversees the Long Term Care facility, notes, “with Deb’s experience, her relationships with residents and families, and this certification, I have the utmost confidence that our MDS information is compiled and submitted with the utmost accuracy and integrity.”

Schoon is responsible for preparing and submitting data to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) while ensuring compliance with Medicare requirements.  She was instrumental in Long Term Care’s Five-Star rating by CMS, received in July 2017.
