Medical Center Moment - January 23, 2014
Happy New Year!
I know the new year celebrations are over, but the new year is still just beginning. What a big year it will be for the medical center.
But first, it is with a real sense of pride that I look back at 2013 and all that was accomplished at Greene County Medical Center. The staff did everything they were asked to do to provide great patient care. This is always our #1 priority.
We made significant hires in our leadership team — a new Chief Financial Officer, a new Chief Nursing Officer and a new Long Term Care director.
We formed strong partnerships with 21st Century Rehab for physical, occupational and speech therapies, and Square Waveform Anesthesiology for our pain management service. We added new specialty clinics for Vascular Surgery and Hepatology.
We opened the Occupational Medicine Clinic to help area employers provide the necessary care and services for their employees. The response has been amazing and we look forward to working with area employers for years to come.
We’ll keep striving with such initiatives in 2014 as more opportunities come available to strengthen our services and the delivery of our patient care.
First up in 2014 will be the groundbreaking of our expansion and renovation project. It looks like we are on target for this big event in late March or early April. The first step will be the demolition of the east portion of the medical center — where public health is currently located. Public health offices will be moved to office trailers located in the south parking lot for the duration of the construction project. Services will be provided through the outpatient department in conjunction with public health staff. We plan on keeping the public well informed on updates, so please stay tuned.
There will be more than construction happening around Greene County Medical Center in 2014.
First, we are scheduled to roll out EPIC. This new electronic patient medical record system will allow better alignment of patient care internally and externally. EPIC is used by many care providers across Iowa and the country so this system helps us reach our goal of quality care coordination for all our patients.
In mid-February we will also be launching a new website which will be more user friendly for patients and visitors, as well as being more easily updated by internal staff. This will allow us to provide the most current information to those who find us via the Internet. It will compliment our social media presence. The new site will automatically fit the screen of most personal devices.
I look forward to 2014 knowing that even amongst the construction and innovative changes happening, the medical center will continue to move forward with our patients, visitors and community as our #1 priority.
Thank you for choosing Greene County Medical Center to take care of many of your health care needs.
Always Here, Always Caring,
Carl Behne, CEO
