Medical Center Moment - July 2018
The end of July. Already? That means we have to start thinking about school and fall athletic events ramping up. We also need to get the last of serious summer fun and vacations in. We might as well get started.
Greene County Public Health is busy with back-to-school immunizations. Two special evening clinics are scheduled for August 1 and 8, to help with required school immunizations for incoming kindergarteners and 7th and 12th graders.
I was pleased to see that 21st Century Rehab was awarded the sports medicine contract for the Greene County School District again this year. This means that qualified and familiar 21st Century staff will be seen at nearly all home sporting events this coming school year. Their concern for our area athletes extends beyond the field, as they are again offering their pre-participation concussion prevention screenings to all athletes.
I’m happy to report that in early July, our board of trustees voted to approve a 2% merit increase for our employees. They also approved increasing our minimum wage to $10.21, nearly 41% above the state of Iowa’s $7.25 requirement.
I want to thank the Greene County community and our hospital team for the incredible support you all gave to the Landon Martin family at the July 18 silent auction and dinner. Landon’s mother, Valerie Martin, ARNP, is one of our valued team members in our Women’s Health Clinic. Your support of the Martin family is proof of the power of community.
As always, I hope you see the significance and value in what we offer the community and give us the opportunity to take care of you and those you love.
Always Here, Always Caring
