Medical Center Moment - June 26, 2014
Summer is here — and what a wonderful time of year. Everything is so green, crops are rapidly growing and so is Greene County.
When I drive by the future Hy-Vee property or out to the corner of Highway 4 and 30 where there is a “future site of” sign for the approved casino, I know I only have to look out my office window and see that Greene County Medical Center is part of that growth in a very big way.
Last month our new partnership with UnityPoint Clinic was announced, and as instructed by the board I have been working with UnityPoint Clinic on finalizing the details of this partnership. UnityPoint Clinic is now actively seeking and securing physicians to join us in Jefferson.
At their June meeting, the board of trustees took the next step in making this partnership a success. They voted to give McFarland Clinic the required 1-year notice on their office space. This will pave the way for UnityPoint Clinic to be on the medical center campus, which is the logical location as we work toward strengthening the network of services coordinated between providers and the medical center.
I recognize that these are big changes for the community. They are big changes for the medical center, too. I am confident that our community will support our efforts and those of our board of trustees. We are doing what is right — strengthening the access of coordinated care for all those we serve. We take seriously our role in providing health care close to home so you don’t have to leave the county for services. We also take seriously the strong economic impact we have in our county. To be successful, we need to move forward with these important changes.
Finally, I want to assure all of you that we have not stopped offering any of our many services — outpatient, inpatient and long term care. Nor do we intend to. We are doing everything we can to ensure that we will be able to continue providing the care and services you have come to expect from us far into the future.
I only have to look out my office window to see just how big our commitment to our community is. We know you have a choice when choosing where you receive care and all of us thank you for choosing Greene County Medical Center for your health care needs.
Always Here, Always Caring,
Carl Behne, CEO
