Underneath the very visible construction and renovation that has been a constant at the medical center for the past 24 months, medical center staff have continued to care for patients, residents and family members as our community expects we would. But staff members also took part in a process to revise and revamp the mission and values of the medical center to better reflect what we do today and intend to do far into the future.
Shortly after the new 52,000-square-foot expansion opened in the fall of 2015, CEO Carl Behne asked employees to participate in a short exercise that identified their individual feelings about the medical center, its role in the community and how it impacts patients and families.
Over 100 employees volunteered to take part in a survey and/or be part of employee focus groups that would delve into more intense discussion about our processes and practices, defining what role the medical center should – and does – play in the larger community.
From these sessions, it was clear that we valued patient-centered, quality care for our patients. We wanted to deliver that in a compassionate, dedicated manner.
In addition, we’re proud of our role in the community’s overall health. We want to be involved in our community. We want to make a difference in the lives of those we care for — and in the lives of their families, too.
At their April retreat this spring, the medical center’s board of trustees reviewed this feedback and agreed with employees in what our mission, vision and values are from this point forward. The result was new mission and values statements and an overwhelming decision to maintain our vision of being Always Here, Always Caring.
