The Gift of Health and Honoring Loved Ones are Two Ways to Make a Difference Through the Greene County Medical Center Foundation on Giving Tuesday

JEFFERSON, Iowa – The ripples of an annual tradition are felt from the largest cities to the smallest communities and in non-profit organizations around the world. The global generosity movement, Giving Tuesday is November 29, and for Greene County and beyond, it is a reminder that we all have something to give.

“Giving Tuesday illuminates for all of us the fact that every generous act counts,” said Greene County Medical Center Foundation Director, Nancy Houska. “We are grateful that our residents, community leaders, organizations and businesses continue to demonstrate how much they care for others by supporting healthcare options at home. That one act of kindness and generosity has an impact on all who come through our doors.”

The 2021 Greene Backer campaign provided funding for the Greene County Medical Center Pain Clinic, which opened in January of 2022. The clinic has brought solutions and relief to over 250 patients and continues to expand to meet your needs. Each year, the campaign receives donations from Greene County Medical Center Team Members as well as other generous Greene Backers. To date, Team Members have donated over $15,000, bringing the mid-campaign total to more than $35,000. Houska added these dollars will continue to support our goal of providing the services you need locally with this campaign’s donations earmarked for the Pain Clinic and the purchase of an Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EDG) scope—a long, flexible tube capped with a camera that allows for examination of the esophagus, stomach and upper portion of the small intestine.

This is also a time of year to show our emotional support to others in our community. The Foundation’s Tree of Life celebrates loved ones who have been lost. Special ornaments can be purchased in their honor or remembrance and everyone is invited to join us on Thursday, December 8 at 1 p.m. in the Greene County Medical Center lobby for the ceremony to recognize the honorees and present the ornaments to family members. Dessert tickets and a Tree of Life ornament can be purchased now through Thursday, December 1 for $25.

Cultural anthropologist, Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” Whether it is a gift of talent, time or good fortune, a small gesture makes a big impact. Every year, this concept becomes action with donations and volunteerism through the Greene County Medical Center Foundation.  “As you contemplate ways you can give to others on Giving Tuesday—and every other day,” Houska said, “we ask you to consider investing in your and your loved ones’ healthcare, now and for years to come. It is not only a gift for your family, but one that delivers a legacy of caring to your friends and neighbors.”
