Vice President of Medical Affairs hired at Medical Center
Chief Executive Officer Carl Behne announced that after approval by the board of trustees at their February meeting, the medical center has hired a part-time Vice President of Medical Affairs (VPMA). Dr. Jon Van Der Veer is slated to begin his position April 9.
In this administrative position, Van Der Veer will monitor current medical center care practices, as well as oversee organizational sustainability initiatives. Van Der Veer will also lead and support the network of providers that serve Greene County Medical Center to guide in best clinical outcomes and care coordination.
Van Der Veer will maintain his internal medicine practice and hospitalist position with UnityPoint Health clinic in West Des Moines and travel to Jefferson two days a week. He will become part of the executive team at the medical center.
Chief Executive Officer Carl Behne noted, “Van Der Veer will add a new dimension to how we can continue to improve physician-driven, patient-centered care coordination at the medical center. Our patients will benefit from Van Der Veer’s passion for patient-centered care delivery.”
Van Der Veer is a University of Iowa and Des Moines University graduate. A Pella native, he and his wife Dr. Emily Haines, a nephrologist with Iowa Kidney Physicians in Des Moines, are expecting their first child in July.
Van Der Veer stated, “I look forward to working with the medical center’s engaged and passionate employees and providers to help transform Greene County Medical Center into a truly patient-centric facility with expanded resources to help keep patients in their own community whenever possible.”
Van Der Veer is slated to begin his position April 9.
