Did you know Greene County Medical Center has been providing health care to the community and surrounding areas since New Year’s Day in 1938? What started as a 32-bed unit has now grown to cover a multitude of services and exceptional care for individuals, from birth to end of life. In 2014, Greene County Medical Center recorded 25,243 outpatient visits, 288 inpatient admissions and 3,976 ER visits. A long commute can mean the difference between life and death, which is why it’s vital that Greene County Medical Center's emergency room be easily accessible to the community. The new emergency entrance will have 24/7 staffing and will be front and center on Grimmell Road for improved visibility.
Wide Array of Visiting Specialists
Providers come to Greene County Medical Center from Fort Dodge, Des Moines, West Des Moines and Carroll on various days each month to provide outpatient specialty clinics. With nearly a dozen different specialty clinics available, Greene County Medical Center is here to care for you.
Specialty clinics added in 2015 include:

Investing in Tomorrow’s Care
The $22.5 million expansion and renovation project is an investment Greene County Medical Center is making to improve the patient experience, while also benefiting the community. The expansion is scheduled to open the last few days of August, providing easier access and increased patient privacy. These exciting changes ensure that you receive the best quality of care possible in Greene County for generations to come!
Features of the expansion include:
- An easily accessible emergency department with increased privacy
- A new surgery area with surgical suites and private bays, providing pre and post-surgery privacy
- A new primary care unit with private rooms
- New space for imaging, laboratory and respiratory care
The existing facility renovation plans include:
- Private registration areas
- Walkway equipped with one main elevator for easier building access
- Patient-friendly clinic waiting area
- Renovated space for Advanced Women’s Care, West Central Orthopedics, 21st Century Rehab services and specialty clinics
- New location for public health
Positive Economic Impact
It is nearly impossible to deny the effects that Greene County Medical Center has on the entire county itself. The medical center generates 411 jobs that contribute $16,131,494 to Greene County’s economy. Employees alone spend over $2.4 million in retail sales that contributes to $148,518 in state sales tax revenue each year. Even with the primary focus of the hospital being patient care, our economic impact does not go without notice.
