Women's Health Physical Therapy
What is women's health physical therapy?
Women's health physical therapy addresses issues that are specific to women. This can include:
- Urinary incontinence and urgency
- Bowel incontinence
- Constipation
- Pelvic pain
- Painful intercourse
- Pregnancy and post-partum pain
- Diastasis recti
- Lower back pain
- Hip pain
- Sacroiliac joint pain
Evaluation
Evaluation for women's health physical therapy can include:
- Assessment of the mobility of joints in the painful region
- Palpation for tender areas and trigger points
- Muscle assessment for length and strength
Some of these assessments will be done externally. However, with specialized training, a physical therapist can also complete an internal muscle examination to further assist in providing the most specific treatment.
