JEFFERSON, Iowa – In 2012, a global generosity movement was launched with a goal of inspiring people to “build a world where generosity is a part of everyday life.” Giving Tuesday is about helping others, showing up for your friends and neighbors, and making a positive impact.

“Giving Tuesday is an example of what can happen when we all pull together toward a common goal,” said Greene County Medical Center Foundation Director, Nancy Houska. “It is not about what or how you give, but rather the fact that you set aside your time, talents or gifts to make this a better world. We are grateful each and every year that our communities exemplify this concept by supporting local healthcare, and with that every patient served here at Greene County Medical Center.

Last year, donations to the Greene County Medical Center Foundation’s Greene Backer Campaign provided continuing support of the Pain Clinic. This has not only helped increase the number of days patients can be seen, it has also been invaluable in treating 63%+ more patients and increasing pain relieving procedures by over 123%. “Thanks to the generosity of our donors, services will expand further with new treatments coming yet this fiscal year for migraine, neck and back pain treatments,” Houska said. The 2022 campaign also supported the purchase of an Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EDG) scope—a long, flexible tube capped with a camera that allows for examination of the esophagus, stomach and upper portion of the small intestine.

By becoming a Greene Backer this year, you can continue to make a positive impact on the lives of your family members, friends and neighbors with support to the Pain Clinic and the purchase of a multi-use ultrasound machine for the benefit of patients seen in the Urology, Cardiac, Pain Clinic, Emergency Acute and Orthopedic departments. “What a phenomenal opportunity this is to increase the quality of life and bring relief to hundreds of people from our communities,” Houska added. “Each one of us has the power to truly make a positive impact in others’ lives.”

This Giving Tuesday, unleash your power to make that impact and invest in local healthcare for today and for years to come.
