JEFFERSON, Iowa – At the September 17th meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson, a $500 check was presented to the Greene County Medical Center Foundation for the Acute Care and Emergency departments. Director of Nursing, Abby Skoglund, RN, explained the ways the funds will be used to bring comfort to pediatric patients receiving emergency services.

“It was actually through the reorganization of the Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) that the need for a more pediatric friendly environment was identified,” Skoglund said. “Our Team came together to generate ideas on how to accomplish this and put together a plan that includes a new mural in the exam room most frequently used for pediatric patients as well as comfort and play items.”

The donation will be used to purchase decals for the mural as well as stuffed bears with Greene County Medical Center logoed t-shirts and water-based coloring books that children will be able to take home with them.

“I deeply appreciate the feedback from our Patient and Family Advisory Council members who continue to guide improvements through the hospital and to organizations such as the Kiwanis who generously support these efforts through their funding and partnerships,” said Skoglund.

The Kiwanis Club is a global organization consisting of volunteers who work to uphold a mission of making lasting, positive differences in the lives of children and fostering a belief that one day, all children will have the support they need to thrive.
