JEFFERSON, Iowa – At Greene County Medical Center, compassion is not just a mission statement, it is something patients and families experience every day. That spirit will be front and center as the organization prepares to celebrate its annual DAISY and Partner of Nursing awards, a highlight of the spring season that honors those who go above and beyond in patient care.
Held each year at the medical center during National Nurses Week, the DAISY Award recognizes nurses whose clinical skill is matched by empathy, dedication and a lasting impact on the lives they touch. The international program itself was created to honor extraordinary nursing care, and at Greene County Medical Center it has become a meaningful tradition that invites patients, families and coworkers to share stories of exceptional service.
“This year’s DAISY Award nominees reflect the depth of talent within the medical center,” said DAISY program coordinator, Katie Nelson, MSN, RN. “Each one of these individuals has earned recognition for their commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care; an approach that aligns with the medical center’s guiding philosophy of being Always Here, Always Caring.” 2026 nominees include RNs Stacey Biggart; Dylan Feldmann, Kelsey Knobbe, Gretchen Spack and Heather Shipley.
Also being honored for their role in patient-focused care are those nominated for the Partner of Nursing Award. “This recognition shines a light on Team Members across all departments who support and enhance patient care in essential ways,” said Director of Acute Care and the Emergency Department, Abby Skoglund, RN. “Together, they represent the collaborative effort required to deliver high-quality healthcare in a community setting.” This year’s nominees include Judy Murphy and Anne Carstens of Greene County Public Health; Laura Walker, RN, Diabetes Management; Susan Clark, Patient Access; Jolene Wiley, Radiology Tech; Katie Marlow, Respiratory Therapist; and Elizabeth Tedder, Nutritional Services.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony on Thursday, May 7 at 2 p.m. in the main lobby of the medical center. This upcoming event promises to be both a celebration and a reminder that behind every great healthcare experience is a Team of people dedicated to making a difference, one patient at a time.
Greene County Medical Center is a cornerstone of healthcare in Jefferson and the surrounding region, serving hundreds of families with a wide range of services from emergency care to public health and specialty clinics. Events like the DAISY and Partner of Nursing awards not only celebrate individual excellence, but also reinforce a culture where compassion, teamwork and community connection remain at the heart of everything they do.
