JEFFERSON, Iowa – Eight recipients have been awarded a total of $9,000 through nine scholarships from the Greene County Medical Center Foundation and Auxiliary. The Foundation presented $1,000 to each of six applicants and the Auxiliary $1,000 to three.
“We are proud to be able to support our area students who are pursuing careers in healthcare-related fields,” said Greene County Medical Center Foundation Director, Nancy Houska. “Not only does this benefit our students now, but it supports their future successes and gives us the opportunity to continue supporting our entire healthcare system. We also benefit when these students bring their skills and talents back home to care for friends and family. Congratulations to all of our recipients.”
“Each year we continue to hold events and fundraisers in support of Greene County Medical Center,” explained Auxiliary President, Sue Rieder. “Our Team Members are the backbone of our healthcare organization and responsible for the excellent care provided to all in our region. We can think of no better way to offer our support than through these scholarship opportunities. Thank you to all who applied and congratulations.”
The Foundation selected the following students for their 2023/2024 scholarships:
· Jesse Miller of Scranton: Jesse is the son of Mark and Jennifer Miller and is a 2023 graduate of Greene County High School. He will be attending the University of South Dakota in the fall and is interested in pursuing a career in Radiology.
· Avery Walker of Jefferson: Avery is the daughter of Laura Walker and Jim Walker and is a 2022 graduate of Greene County High School. She is attending Iowa Lakes Community College in pursuit of an Applied Nursing Degree.
· Sammantha Borkowski of Jefferson: Sammantha is currently attending Des Moines Area Community College in Boone in pursuit of an Associate Degree in Nursing.
· Gretchen Davis of Jefferson: Gretchen in the daughter of Nicole Uebel and Birton Davis and a 2023 graduate of Paton-Churdan High School. She is attending Mercy College of Health Science in Des Moines, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
· Sadie Gilbertson of Jefferson: Sadie is the daughter of Michele and Daniel Gilbertson and is a 2023 graduate of Greene County High School. She will be attending Iowa Central Community College in the fall and pursuing a degree in nursing.
· Morgan Stricker of Jefferson: Morgan is a graduate of Jefferson-Scranton High School and is currently attending Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge. Morgan is working to advance her career in Radiology at Greene County Medical Center.
The Greene County Medical Center Auxiliary selected three students for their 2023/2024 scholarships:
· Sadie Gilbertson of Jefferson: Sadie is the daughter of Michele and Daniel Gilbertson and is a 2023 graduate of Greene County High School. She will be attending Iowa Central Community College in the fall and pursuing a degree in nursing.
· Ellie Madson of Jefferson: Ellie is 2020 graduate of the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science and Master’s Degree in Public Health. She will be attending a graduate program at UI that focuses on occupational and environmental health.
· Hannah Promes of Jefferson: Hannah holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Performance and Fitness and is currently studying for an Occupational Therapy Doctorate at Drake University.
