JEFFERSON, Iowa – The month of May kicks off with National Nurses Week from Tuesday, May 6 through Monday May 12 and National Hospital Week starting Sunday, May 11 and going through Saturday, May 7. This is a very special time at Greene County Medical Center with celebrations for all healthcare workers.
Both weeks will be filled with fun activities, a lot of good food and special gatherings. Greene County Medical Center will shine the spotlight on nurses and their support staff with a special awards ceremony. The DAISY and Partner of Nursing Awards are open to the public and will be held Thursday, May 8 beginning at 10 a.m. in the main lobby of the medical center.
The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses was started by the DAISY Foundation, founded by the family of J. Patrick Barnes in 1999 after he passed away from complications of an auto-immune disease. They wanted to honor the nurses whose care deeply touched them and Patrick. Nominations for the DAISY Award are made by patients, family and community members as well as healthcare colleagues. “We are all very proud of our nursing Team at Greene County Medical Center,” said Chief Nursing Officer, Amanda Lass. “We see and hear about their exceptional work with patients every day and are humbled by the outpouring of support and gratitude displayed in the nominations made this year. These selfless individuals give the very best of themselves to those we serve, and we simply can’t thank them enough.” Nominees for the 2025 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses include: Barb Broich, Lauren Carlson, Brix Carstens, Noelle Clouse, Kelli Farley, Gina Geisler, Deb Hoskins, Jordan Kral, Janey McCabe, Teresa Morlan, Dan Scheuermann, Sydney Schiltz, Heather Shipley, Abby Skoglund and Amanda Waltz.
The Partner of Nursing Award originated in 2020 when Greene County Medical Center nurses began searching for a way to recognize the invaluable support they receive every day from other Team Members. “The Partner of Nursing Award is just one small way we have of being able to show much we appreciate these individuals and their unwavering commitment to patient-centered, high-quality care,” explained Director of Nursing, Jessica Weiss. Nominations are made by Greene County Medical Center nurses and include Shelby Ackerman, Tammy Andre, Johnny Nelson, Amber Reed, Deana Shriver and Derek Wilson.
During National Hospital Week, the public is invited to join the entire Greene County Medical Center Team for a Jefferson Matters Java & Juice at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, May 16 in the medical center’s main lobby.
