Greene County Medical Center Welcomes New Gastroenterology Specialty Provider

JEFFERSON, Iowa – Greene County Medical Center is pleased to announce Karen Luken, ARNP with the Iowa Digestive Disease Center (IDDC) of Clive will begin seeing patients in Jefferson on the third Wednesday of each month beginning November 20.

“We are pleased to have a provider with an extensive background in gastrointestinal medicine joining our list of specialists at Greene County Medical Center,” said Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Laurie Connolly. “Luken has been with the IDDC since 2015. Prior to that, she was affiliated with Gastrointestinal Associates and the Veterans Administration.”

Luken will be treating patients who suffer from chronic abdominal pain with unknown causes, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, chronic constipation or diarrhea, fatty liver disease and abnormal liver test results as well as dyspepsia/GERD, liver fibrosis/cirrhosis and hepatitis B or C.

Originally from Buffalo Center in northern Iowa, Luken received her bachelor of nursing degree from Drake University and her ARNP (Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner) master of nursing degree from Creighton University.

“I have been treating patients with liver disease and gastrointestinal disorders since 2000 and have been assisting with nurse practitioner and physician assistant education through my affiliations with the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease (AASLD) and the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG),” said Luken. “I look forward to meeting and helping new patients in the Jefferson area.”

Luken resided in Des Moines from 1983 to 1999, before moving to Mason City for a year and then on to Kansas City, where she lived and practiced for 15 years. She returned to Iowa in 2015.
