Holiday Traditions at Greene County Medical Center

JEFFERSON, Iowa – The holiday season is better with a little friendly bidding, a bit of homemade candy and the thrill of finding that just-right gift. The Greene County Medical Center Auxiliary is bringing all three back this November and December, with favorite holiday traditions that offer something special for shoppers while they give back to their communities.

The festivities kick off with the annual Holiday of Lights silent auction, opening Thursday, November 12 at 9:30 a.m. in the medical center’s main lobby. From beautifully adorned wreaths and decorated trees to gift baskets and holiday displays, there will be plenty to catch your eye and inspire a bid. The auction closes at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 3, with item pickup beginning that afternoon until 6 p.m. Additional pickup opportunities are available during Gift Garden hours, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., on the following Friday and Saturday.

Then comes a holiday favorite that is hard to resist: the Auxiliary Candy Sale. On Tuesday December 15, the main lobby will be filled with tempting homemade treats beginning at 7 a.m. Whether you’re stocking up for holiday gatherings, looking for something sweet to share or simply treating yourself, don’t wait too long. The candy is available only while supplies last.

For those who love discovering gifts with a little extra personality, the Gift Garden is another stop to add to the holiday list. There are thoughtful finds and unique treasures with the chance to shop locally and support healthcare right here in Greene County. In addition to their regular Monday through Thursday hours of 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Friday hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Gift Garden is open for holiday shopping 9;30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. November 12, 13, 14 for the Jefferson Matters Fall Open House and November 20, 21 and 28 as well as December 5, 12 and 19.

“The holidays are busy enough, so we like to give people a few more reasons to stop in, do a little shopping and maybe take home something sweet,” said Auxiliary President, Joyce Kurth. “Our volunteers put a lot of heart and effort into these activities and it’s fun to see the community come together to support them.”

The Gift Garden will be closed November 7-11 to prepare for the Jefferson Matters Fall Open House as well as December 24-26 and December 31-January 2.

There is an added reason to shop, bid and buy this season, proceeds from Auxiliary activities help support equipment, programs and services at Greene County Medical Center, along with scholarships for area students pursuing healthcare-related careers. Every purchase helps make a difference for patients, families and our communities.
