New 21st Century Rehab Doctor of Physical Therapy Seeing Patients of All Ages at Greene County Medical Center
by Greene County Medical Center - February 23, 2024
JEFFERSON, Iowa –A few weeks after relocating to Jefferson and beginning a new career with 21st Century Rehab in Greene County Medical Center, Taylan Entriken, a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), said he is greatly enjoying both. The ability to see a variety of patients, from outpatient to skilled care, was just one of the aspects that made this an appealing option for Entriken. “I came here and did a clinical internship this past summer and I really liked my co-workers and the community quite a bit,” he said.
Originally from Hudson, Entriken said his interest in becoming a physical therapist started at an early age. Weight lifting and a wrestling career (that ran through college) drew him into learning more about how the human body works. “I had a couple of injuries when I was younger. A big elbow injury when I was 12 led to six months of physical therapy,” he explained. “I spent a lot of time with the physical therapist in town and then I enjoyed my anatomy and physiology classes in high school so I did some job shadowing. From my junior year in high school, I knew what I wanted to do.”
Entriken has pursued this goal for the past six years. He first received a bachelor of science in kinesiology and health from Iowa State University and then his doctorate at the University of Iowa.
Over the time spent in school and in clinical settings, he has identified a goal for each and every patient. He wants to partner with them to not only address the issue at hand, but to also enhance their quality of life as much as possible. “We are working to treat the whole person, Entriken said. “Everyone comes in with aches and pains, but our goal with physical therapy is to get you to feel better and then get you to find some activity or exercise you can do outside of physical therapy. We are targeting prolonged health throughout your entire life, not just alleviating the pain that brought you to us. We want to give you the tools to be able to help yourselves.”
Entriken and his wife Courtney are expecting their first child in late July. In his spare time, he has assisted with wrestling programs in Alta and North Liberty, continues to lift weights and enjoys hunting.
