Schools Out, Let the Planning Begin
by Greene County Medical Center - June 20, 2025
JEFFERSON, Iowa – The final bells rang just a few weeks ago, but savvy parents know the best time to start planning for the next school year is now; because between pool days, camps and cook outs, summer has a way of quickly slipping away.
Greene Count Medical Center helps you dive into that early planning for a strong and healthy return to the practice fields and classrooms. “Taking care of healthcare-related checkups ensures your student is ready for sports and other physical activities, that they are up to date on all vaccinations and have been screened for important developmental milestones,” explained Director of Public Health, Shelby Cooklin. “As an added bonus, you will be able to avoid last-minute appointments and the stress of juggling schedules. This also allows you to enjoy spending time together in those final weeks before classes start.”
The Family Medicine Clinic, Public Health and 21st Century Rehab are joining forces to offer free sports physicals, immunization clinics and sports injury assessments. The Family Medicine Clinic will host two free sports physical clinics in July. These are scheduled for Tuesday, July 15 and Thursday, July 17 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. No insurance or appointments are needed. Simply bring the most current sports physical forms and written parental consent if a parent or guardian will not be present. If unable to attend the free clinics, call 386-0500 to schedule an appointment.
Greene County Public Health will be on site during the special clinic hours to provide immunizations. In addition, they are available by appointment the third Wednesday of each month from 4 to 6:15 p.m. and for appointments or walk-ins Monday through Friday during their regular hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cooklin stressed it is important to note that even though there is no cost for the sports physicals, insurance or another form of payment will be required for immunizations. Call 386-3228 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
21st Century Rehab provides free sports injury assessments for all county athletes in grades seven through 12. In addition, they will be available at the high school training room to see athletes with injuries one day each week and are present at home sporting events. For more information or to schedule an assessment, call 386-4284.
