Greene County Public Health Flu Vaccination Clinics

JEFFERSON, Iowa – Even though we have been experiencing summer-like weather lately, flu season is just around the corner and Greene County Public Health is reminding everyone it is time to get their annual flu vaccination. In order to make the vaccine available to all county residents, they are holding in-house clinics daily and will host a drive-through clinic on Wednesday, October 16.

The vaccination clinics are held in the Public Health offices on Level B at Greene County Medical Center. These are scheduled Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The drive-through clinic on Wednesday, October 16 is at the Greene County Fairgrounds from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Appointments are not required, but are encouraged. These can be made by calling 515-386-3228 or scanning the QR code below.

“The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced the 2024-2025 flu vaccines will be trivalent, meaning they will protect against three different flu strains expected to be prevalent this season,” said Public Health Director, Becky Wolf. “These will include the H1N1, H3N2 and Victoria viruses. We strongly encourage everyone to be vaccinated, but this is particularly important for those at high risk.”

Individuals who are at higher risk of complications from the flu include: children under 5 and adults 65 and older, pregnant women, those who suffer from chronic health conditions, people on long-term aspirin therapies, those who are overweight and individuals living and working in nursing or other types of care facilities.

The CDC’s recommendation is that everyone 6 months and up receive the annual flu vaccination no later than the end of October.

Based on availability, COVID vaccine will be offered for children 6 months to 12 years of age. Please contact Public Health at 515-386-3228 with questions about the booster or flu vaccines.
