Telehealth Endocrinology Available at Greene County Medical Center

JEFFERSON, Iowa – In an ongoing effort to improve local access to specialized care, Greene County Medical Center CEO, Chad Butterfield is pleased to announce the introduction of telehealth endocrinology services. “This new initiative offers our residents access to expert hormone and metabolic care, without the need to travel long distances,” Butterfield said.

Patients utilize an exam room to connect with a board-certified endocrinologist in a user-friendly, secure video consultation. The provider will be able to focus on the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of conditions, including diabetes, thyroid disorders, osteoporosis, adrenal and pituitary issues, menopause, infertility and hormone imbalances.

Historically, rural residents have faced barriers to receiving timely endocrine care, often needing to wait months or travel an hour or more to see a specialist. According to the International Diabetes Federation, North America and the Caribbean reported 56.2 million cases of diabetes alone in 2024 and predict it will rise to 68.1 million by 2050. It is estimated U.S. cases will increase from 39 million in 2024 to 43 million in 2050. In addition, The Endocrine Society reports everyday exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in the environment are linked to rising rates of infertility, diabetes, immune deficiencies and other serious health conditions.
